Mother’s Day Breakfast

Mother's Day Breakfast Lifestyle Blog

Mother’s Day in Spain is on the first weekend of May, therefore we celebrate it one week before most of you guys. The day started with a special breakfast. We chose blue as a theme for the table setting since it’s both my mom’s and my favorite color. As a centerpiece we used fruit for a change. We surely love a beautiful bouquet of flowers but we wanted to do something different this time and we were very happy with the result. What do you think? Are you team flowers or team fruit?

The breakfast menu was the typical one for a weekend. Most people’s day starts when they have a cup of coffee, our fuel is a freshly squeezed juice. You can find my favorite juice recipes here. This one is made of apple, orange and carrot. Then, we usually have a glass of milk with a slice of cake (see my favorite recipes here) or some pastries. Weekends are cheat day and I have a really sweet tooth so that’s when I take care of my cravings. My breakfast is not very different from Monday to Friday, actually. I usually swap the cake for something a bit healthier. You know here in Spain most households buy a baguette a day, we can’t eat without bread. We don’t eat all of it in a day so I use the leftover bread for breakfast the next morning. I can’t stand throwing food away. So, I split it in half and pour some honey over it. It’s delicious. It’s 0% fat, the honey provides vitamins and the bread the carbs I need to survive a high school day dealing with teenagers.

I can’t finish this post without a little ode to moms because, what would we do without them? A mother is the most selfless human being. They always put their children first, they’d do anything for us. I have a cushion on my bed that she brought me from England with this sentence embroidered on it “a mother’s heart is a place where children always have a home”. Isn’t it beautiful? I know this sentence by heart just like I know that she’ll always be there for me. We don’t always thank them properly, though. Who hasn’t given their mom a hard time as a teen? It breaks my heart to think that I’ve said or done things that could have hurt her. Fortunately for us, apart from being selfless they are forgiving too.

Thanks, mom, for being my best friend, for being my partner in crime sometimes and for putting up with my bad temper.

How are you guys going to celebrate Mother’s Day?
