One of the best things about having lived in different countries is incorporating different traditions to my life back home. I spent 9 months living in Dublin and attending Trinity College while I was at University. This time allowed me to learn a great deal about this wonderful country. Probably their most famous celebration is Saint Patrick’s Day which is held on Thursday, March 17. So in honor of the saint patron of Ireland I’m going to show you how to host a Saint Patrick’s Day feast.

First thing is the decoration. A beautiful bouquet or a centerpiece at the table is always a must. This one has the colors of the Irish flag. In case you don’t know, here’s the history behind the flag.

The green symbolises Irish republicanism. The orange represents the minority who were supporters of King William III, who was of the House of Orange.The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the two cultures and a living together in peace. The flag, as a whole, is intended to symbolise the inclusion and hoped-for union of the people of different traditions on the island of Ireland.

How to Host a Saint Patrick's Day Feast

A hearty main course is traditional for St. Paddy’s Day. This dish consists of Irish beef with a side of potatoes in their jackets and peas. No Irish-themed meal is complete without Irish bread and good Irish butter.

For something sweet I got these Saint Patrick’s cupcakes with gold, sharmrocks and green frosting. And don’t forget a warm mug of Irish coffee to top it off.


Ingredients
8 teaspoons of sugar
1/2 cup whiskey
2 cups hot brewed coffee
1/2 cup heavy cream

Directions
Place 2 teaspoons of sugar in each of 4 mugs. Add 2 tablespoons of whiskey to each mug, then fill with coffee. Hold a spoon, rounded side up, over each mug and slowly pour the cream over the spoon, floating it on top of the coffee. Serves 4.
