Birthday Wishes

This is a very special time of the year for me. From November 27th -which is my birthday- until Christmas I have family gatherings almost every weekend.

Last Saturday was my birthday celebration. The first step every year is getting a beautiful bouquet. Our favorite flower shop in my hometown is Flores Sela. It’s a traditional family run business who make the most beautiful arrangements. This orchid is part of my bedroom decor and it’s another example of their artistic creations.

On our way to get the cake we stopped to snap some photos. The warm temperatures and the colorful blooms made it the perfect day for a photo shoot.

Back home the celebration starts. Being a foodie, delicious food is the most important part of the party. Canapes and tapas are the appetizers, the main course is usually meat or fish and the cherry on top is the birthday cake, of course.

After blowing the candles it was time for movie night.

Now, most people have New Year’s Resolutions but I prefer Birthday Resolutions. Every year I promise to strive for better, to let go of bad thoughts, to enjoy the little things, to stop being a control freak and to be more patient with people. Those are issues I’m still working on but I think I’m getting better little by little.

This year I’ve also decided to make another deal with myself: to live my life to the fullest but still taking care of my responsibilities. I’ve always been so responsible that I’ve forgot that I have to live. I guess that deep inside I think that if I “start living” I will enjoy it too much and I’ll leave my duties aside…

So I’ll take baby steps. Things like giving myself little treats and making duties more enjoyable. Having some me time either at home or at a spa getting a massage. Making a cup of cocoa while reading a book (and forgetting how bad it is for your skin). Going on a trip and getting lost for a weekend. I have 365 days to work on that, starting now…
