At first sight, you may think this is somewhere in Europe. Well, folks, it is not. This is America.
The Palace of Fine Arts was originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in order to exhibit works of art presented there. This -almost- tourist free marvel is one of the best places in San Francisco to walk around and get lost in your thoughts while contemplating this magnificent work of art.
You may wonder why are there hardly any tourists swarming this beauty. I’m not sure about the real reason but I do know that the people who live in this neighborhood apreciate the peacefulness and quiteness and want to keep it this way. I totally understand them. I’d love to live in one of the houses around this site and see the Palace every morning when I wake up.
