I’m Petite and Finally Dared to Wear a Maxi Dress

Can you believe it’s taken me so long to jump on the maxi dress bandwagon? Being 5’2” I thought this type of dress wasn’t for me. No matter how trendy an item is, if I think it’s not going to suit me I won’t buy it. Same goes for culottes or wide-leg cropped pants which I actually like.boho maxi dress petite fashion blogger

I had tried some maxi dresses previously, but I always opted for mini dresses instead. Finally, I found this long boho dress. When I saw the beautiful embroidery I was sold. It also has an Ibiza vibe that’s difficult to resist. It’s slightly oversized and flowy which makes it perfect to let the breeze go in and cool you off on a hot summer day. I still think that a tall gal would look like a Greek goddess in it but I do like it for petites too. What do you think?
Here’s a sneak peek of my wedding shoes. Yes, I chose espadrilles. I wanted height and comfort so when I found out that Spanish brand Castañer had a bridal collection I saw the light. Someone had finally made my dream shoes. The fabric is satin and the straps are velvet so it’s much more delicate and high quality than regular espadrilles. The fact that I can still wear these after the wedding is also an advantage because if I had bought a pair of white pumps I’d have never worn them again.

Photography tip: take a look at the light on the picture below. We always look for a way to get the sun shinning on my hair but this time we managed to get a kind of aura around the whole body as well. Also, since the skirt is white (but not see-through) you can make out the silhouette underneath which I think looks really nice. Always look for the best lighting options possible! Look around your shooting location before you start taking photos, it usually takes some trial and error until you figure this out but the result is totally worth it.

I’ve been putting together photography tips to do a “photography tricks I’ve learnt from blogging” post. Would you like to see posts of that sort on the blog? What photography questions do you have?

  1. That maxi dress is so lovely, Cristina! And looks so comfy too 🙂 I'm about 5'5…so I often feel like it's hard to wear long skirts too! Usually in those times, wedges are my best friend 🙂

Love that dress. Embroidery GOOD! I have a petite friend who has been wearing maxis for years and they look stunning on her. I think it's a matter of the dress's proportions, fabric and wearing a little heel that makes the difference. There's a fabulous maxi out there for every height and shape. Glad you decided to give them a try. This one looks spectacular on you.

  3. I'm a petite too, as I'm 156cm and I haven't wore a maxi dress. Never. I always look at them like oooh how pretty they are but sadly I haven't found my style yet 🙁 But this looks so good! The style is little different than those that I usually see. I love it!

  4. The embroidery on this dress IS stunning, and you totally look 5'10" tall in this dress! I think it's because it has that lovely floaty quality to it.
