Madrid for Foodies: Elektra

A couple of weeks ago we tried a new restaurant suggested by a friend. She told us it was a charming place that serves healthy food so we were intrigued. It’s not so easy to find a restaurant described as healthy. Furthermore, it’s quite difficult to find a restaurant with vegetarian or vegan dishes in Spain. Neither my husband nor I are vegetarians but we like to eat as healthy as we can. The famous Mediterranean diet that we have in Spain is good for you but we do fry a lot of stuff and most tapas are on the greasier side.

When you arrive at Elektra you are welcomed by a mixture of modern and vintage decor. Their dishes are just as exquisite as the decoration. They use organic products and everything is beautifully presented. The place opens from 9am to 2am. You can go for breakfast and have their homemade muesli, have a decadent brunch on weekends, lunch or dinner and drinks late at night.

We started by sharing one of the most typical dishes in Madrid: huevos rotos which literally means “broken eggs”. It consists of fried potatoes, eggs and Spanish ham. The trick to these eggs is to fry them and to break the yolk with the tip of a knife just before eating. The Elektra version of this traditional dish comes with a twist: all the ingredients are wrapped up in cheese. It was absolutely delicious, best huevos rotos we’ve ever had.

Then we ordered cod over black rice and the Cali salad made with greens and fresh fruit: mango, strawberries and avocado.

Now my absolute favorite part: dessert. Trying their home made desserts is a must. We had the cheesecake with salty toffee and the chocolates with yuzu cream. Both tasted heavenly.

Needless to say, we’ll be coming back to Elektra. Next time, when the weather is better we’ll enjoy a scrumptious brunch al fresco on their cute outdoor area.

Are there many healthy restaurants where you live? Which one is your favorite?

  1. Looks yummy! Yes we have a great Seasonal Garden Cafe which sources local produce and you can tell by the taste. Their cheesecake is not overpoweringly sweet and I only have 1/2 slice – but it is delish! The Cafe is so popular it has now has 2 maybe 3 cafes in different parts around here the Capital city of South Australia. Thanks for your great post (I'm into healthy wherever possible)

  2. This place looks amazing! I LOVE me some dessert and these desserts look outstanding! Plus I love the atmosphere and the vibes this place is putting off!
