The Perfect Birthday

I can’t believe that a whole year has already passed. Isn’t it scary how quickly time flies? I don’t know about you, but I spend the days waiting for something: the weekend, some exciting plans, a trip, celebrations… that I forget to enjoy the little things every day. Maybe that’s why time flies, because we are so busy, busy at work and busy planning things to take our minds off. It’s kind of nerve-wracking to realize how quickly time flies by, but at the same time I’m so grateful to turn one year older.

Just like that we are back in my favorite time of the year. It all starts with my birthday on the 27th, then more family birthdays and finally the most magical time of the year, Christmas. My birthday is also the day we put up the Christmas decorations which I love so much: the mixture of green, red and gold, the lights…the streets look so beautiful too.

Since the 27th is on Tuesday, we celebrated this weekend in my hometown Leon. We tried a very popular rooftop restaurant with excellent city views called niMú. We absolutely loved it. It’s the type of food and ambiance we always look for in a restaurant. For starters we shared Spanish anchovies, tomato with avocado and pomegranate and nigiris. The main dishes were squid, sirloin steak and cod. The most spectacular thing were the desserts, the assorted ice-cream is adorable, isn’t it? I chose their signature dessert: the fish bowl. It is literary a fish bowl with an amazing mixture of flavors: nuts, chocolate, lemon…one of the most delicious and original desserts I’ve ever had. The candle is also edible, it’s made of white chocolate. Needless to say, it was a wonderful birthday celebration.

As you see, I like to keep things casual but the fact that I get to spend it with the people I love makes it so special. I don’t need a big birthday bash, this is what makes me happy. What about you? What’s for you the perfect birthday?

  1. It sounds like you had fantastic birthday celebrations! The food looks delicious and I’m with you, I much prefer a small intimate gesture than a big party!

  2. The food looks fab. I'm a bit over birthdays, but with a big milstone coming up, I'm having a party – but then we have parties all the time for pretty random reasons so it's just an excuse really! 3MONDAYeSCAPES

  3. Happy belated birthday! That restaurant was so elegant–I love it! I spent my 40th birthday at my happy place: a cabin at an "autism retreat" (my 11-year-old daughter has autism) in the woods of east Texas. It was simply heavenly, and we've already booked it for my daughter's 12th birthday.

  4. What a wonderful way to spend your birthday. That food looks yummy and the presentation is gorgeous. I love how your birthday is also the day you put up your decorations. What a fun time!

  5. Happiest of birthdays, Cristina!! Looks like you had a lovely birthday evening. Those mini ice creams are adorable!
(I just wrote a post on my Christmas Memories and mentioned how my sister's birthday being December just adds to the Christmas magic; so I know what you mean when you said you'd put lights up on your birthday. It's like the Christmas season has officially begun!)

  6. Happy belated birthday Cristina! It sounds like you had an amazing celebration and that's so awesome! Love your neckerchief. So pretty! For me, I also like to have a low key celebration. Just so long as there is food and some sight seeing, I am good! With sight seeing, I just mean walking around perhaps with coffee in hand. It could be in a park, plaza or even around the neighborhood!
